2 Peter - Live Love

Good morning,

I am out of town with our family.  I’m sorry I won’t be with you! So last week we finished up 1 Peter so this Sabbath we are moving on to 2 Peter.

Before we do that....

Question of the day: What is your favorite weather. Or when you say’ “today’s weather was perfect.” What was the weather like and why?

Read: 2 Peter 1-11

2 Peter

Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,

To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:  Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. Making One’s Calling and Election Sure His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is
nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours.....

So let’s look at just this much.  There is so much here...

What do you notice about the underlined parts?

The righteousness is a gift from God

Faith is received.

Both are  implied gifts!

“Grace and peace be yours in abundance”
There have been several times this week when I have needed both Grace and peace! It has been my prayer for many of my friends.  It is so needed by the world.  Always but right now it seems so much more needed!

HOW?!!!!!!!!

“ through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.”

Grace and peace is ours in abundance through the knowledge.... what does this mean?

Continuing on...
Making One’s Calling and Election Sure His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. ”

It is often easy for us to give up on godliness as even something to strive for.  Here Peter reminds us we have everything we need, it is all given to us! Again knowledge comes into play! Knowledge.

The rest of these verses (through11) Peter is reminding us of the importance of living a life that is good! We have freedom in Christ, yes but it isn’t a freedom that means we can do whatever we want. It is freedom to live for Christ!

I am going to stop writing here because I’m having some technical issues. However,  look at these verses for clues as to the what characteristics are important, and how we get there.  How do we read this passage with life application today! What is Peter saying directly to me?

Have a wonderful Sabbath!
